Who doesn’t love a clean and well-kept home? For investors, it’s not just about aesthetics; general cleanliness can impact property value, tenant satisfaction, maintenance costs, and more. Our Cleaning and Decluttering Checklist is the perfect resource to provide for your tenants to them keep your property in tip-top shape!

All Rooms 

  • Remove anything that does not belong in the room. 
  • Dust and vacuum light fixtures, lampshades, ceiling fans, and air vents.  
  • Vacuum, wipe down, or wash window coverings.  
  • Wash windows and window frames.  
  • Working top to bottom, dust all artwork, decor, and furniture.  
  • Vacuum behind and under furniture.  
  • Wipe down baseboards and doors. 
  • Vacuum carpet or mop floors.  
  • Empty and wash trash cans.  

Living Room 

  • Dust and clean television.  
  • Disinfect remote controls.  
  • Vacuum furniture, remove cushions and clean all nooks and crannies.  
  • Organize any toys, games, or other entertainment.  

 Kitchen/Dining Room 

  • Dust and clean tables and chairs.
  • Clean out the fridge and wipe down shelves, drawers, and sides.  
  • Clean the oven and stovetop, including drip bowls.  
  • Clean the inside of the microwave.  
  • Wipe down the outside of all appliances/surfaces.  
  • Sort through drawers/cabinets and remove any items that are broken or that you never use.  
  • Wipe down the backsplash and the vent hood.  
  • Scrub the kitchen sink.  

 Bathrooms 

  • Clean the bathtub and/or shower, including fixtures and the shower head. 
  • Replace the shower curtain liner if necessary.  
  • Wash bathmats.  
  • Wipe down mirrors, faucets, and sinks. 
  • Empty and clean any under-sink storage. 
  • Clean the toilet, including the tank and base. 

 Bedrooms 

  • Flip, rotate, and vacuum your mattress.  
  • Wash all bedding. 
  • Empty and wipe down dresser drawers.  
  • Refold and organize drawer items (purge damaged, unused, or outgrown items).  
  • Organize and purge all items in the closet.  

Laundry Room 

  • Wipe down the inside of the washing machine, including soap and fabric softener dispensers.  
  • Clean the dryer vent. 
  • Dust behind all appliances. 
  • Organize laundry soap and other cleaning products. 

Mudroom 

  • Store any out-of-season coats and shoes.  
  • Put any other items away neatly. 

Keeping It Clean 

  • Prevent attracting roaches, spiders, rats, and mice by disposing of all trash in a proper container. Keep food storage areas clean and free of debris and trash.  
  • Clutter is a fire hazard and can make it harder to rescue loved ones in the event of a fire. Keep a well-organized home. 
  • To prevent mold/mildew growth, set thermostats no higher than 76 degrees.
